Description

Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – Clinical Laboratory
Location: Baltimore, MD
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings, 5x8-Hour (15:00–23:30), Monday–Friday

Job Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive clinical laboratory testing across multiple disciplines including Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Immunology/Serology, and Urinalysis.

Accurately analyze, verify, and report patient test results using automated and manual methodologies.

Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform quality control on laboratory instruments and analyzers.

Perform specimen collection, accessioning, processing, handling, labeling, transport, and storage in compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards.

Conduct blood bank procedures including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, crossmatching, transfusion reaction workups, and blood product handling.

Perform microbiology culture setup, organism identification, sensitivity testing, rapid testing, and PCR-based assays.

Review and interpret quality control data, ensure adherence to quality assurance programs, and follow safety, infection control, and hazardous material protocols.

Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with phlebotomy and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care.

Float within the hospital laboratory as needed and assist with coverage changes based on staffing needs.

Required Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (first-time travelers will be considered).

Strong independent work skills with hands-on experience across a broad range of laboratory instrumentation and testing platforms.

Experience in hospital-based clinical laboratories preferred.

Proficiency in specimen processing, quality control review, and result reporting.

Prior charge or lead experience preferred but not required.

Experience with Epic charting system preferred.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

ASCP certification (required)
ASCP-MLS (preferred)
BLS – American Heart Association (preferred)
Active Maryland Medical Laboratory Scientist License or Compact License
