Description

Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Bank) – Laboratory Services
Location: Baltimore, MD
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 5x8-Hour (07:00–15:30), Monday–Friday

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive blood bank testing including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, crossmatching, antigen typing, and transfusion reaction workups

  • Conduct blood banking procedures such as AHG and electronic crossmatches, Rhogam screening, thawing and cooling of blood products, and component preparation

  • Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen handling in compliance with laboratory and transfusion safety standards

  • Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology sections as assigned

  • Review, validate, and report laboratory test results in a timely and accurate manner using the Epic charting system

  • Perform quality control, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; review and interpret QC data

  • Accession, process, and prepare specimens including pipetting, specimen transport, and storage

  • Adhere to infection control practices, hazardous material handling, and proper disposal procedures

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including phlebotomy and clinical staff

  • Participate in orientation and comply with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist

  • Blood Bank experience required (hard stop)

  • Strong hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation

  • Experience in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology testing preferred

  • Ability to work independently and manage workload in a hospital clinical laboratory setting

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • ASCP or ASCP-MLS certification (required)

  • BLS – American Heart Association (required)

  • Active Maryland or Compact Medical Laboratory license (required at time of submission)
