Registered Nurse – Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool
Facility: University of Maryland Saint Joseph Medical Center
Location: Towson, MD
Start Date: 06/15/2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift (7:00PM – 7:30AM)
Schedule: 3x12 Hours (36 Hours/Week)
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes – within specialty and MCH as needed
Call Requirement: None
Note: Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
Position Overview:
The Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN will provide specialized nursing care for pediatric and neonatal patients in a pediatric med/surg and pediatric ED setting. The RN will care for patients with respiratory, GI, NICU step-down, and general pediatric conditions while supporting multidisciplinary pediatric care teams in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Job duties:
- Provide direct patient care for pediatric, neonatal, infant, adolescent, and occasional adult med/surg patients
- Monitor and manage pediatric patients with respiratory illnesses, GI conditions, infections, and NICU step-down needs
- Administer pediatric medications and perform pediatric dosage calculations
- Manage oxygen delivery systems, suctioning, tracheostomy care, and ventilator support as needed
- Perform IV therapy, blood product administration, central line care, and NG tube management
- Monitor pediatric patients for seizure activity and neurological changes
- Assist with feeding support including bottle, breast, and gavage feedings
- Respond to pediatric rapid response situations and emergencies using PEWS protocols
- Maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions
- Document patient care accurately in Epic and collaborate with interdisciplinary pediatric teams
Requirements:
Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License required
Experience: Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience required
Certifications: BLS and PALS required; NRP preferred (AHA certifications only)
Other requirement: Must be comfortable floating within specialty areas and working in pediatric ED and inpatient pediatric settings

Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, and occasional Adults up to age 65
Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory illnesses, NICU step-down, GI illnesses, infections, seizure disorders, pediatric medical-surgical conditions
