Note: LDRP unit. Candidate will also care for Postpartum (PP) and Mother/Baby (MB) patients. OB Surgical Recovery (C-Section Recovery) experience highly preferred.

Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery provides comprehensive nursing care to obstetric, postpartum, newborn, and neonatal patients within a Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) setting. The RN is responsible for monitoring maternal and fetal well-being, assisting with labor and delivery procedures, supporting postpartum recovery, and providing newborn care while collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.

Job duties:

• Assess, monitor, and provide nursing care for laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients throughout the continuum of care.
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring systems and recognize abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
• Perform sterile vaginal examinations and assist with labor progression assessments.
• Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, prostaglandins, and Terbutaline according to physician orders and protocols.
• Assist physicians during vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, operative deliveries, and emergency obstetric procedures.
• Circulate and recover patients following Cesarean sections and other obstetrical surgical procedures.
• Manage obstetrical emergencies including postpartum hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal distress, and maternal complications.
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy, administer blood products, and manage infusion pumps and medication drips.
• Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, thermoregulation management, infant identification, and newborn stabilization.
• Provide postpartum care including fundal assessments, lochia evaluation, incision care, pain management, and breastfeeding support.
• Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding, and discharge instructions.
• Assist with neonatal care including hypoglycemia management, phototherapy monitoring, cord care, and parent education.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, lactation consultants, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Respond appropriately to maternal, fetal, and neonatal emergencies.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic EMR.
• Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality care standards.

Requirements:

Licensure:
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License

Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
• Previous Charge Nurse experience preferred
• OB Surgical Recovery (C-Section Recovery) experience highly preferred
• Experience in LDRP setting preferred

Certifications:
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)
• AWHONN Intermediate or C-EFM
• BLS
• AWHONN Beginner Preferred

Other requirement:
• Epic experience required
• Experience with Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Mother/Baby care required
• Ability to perform fetal monitoring interpretation and management required
• Experience with vaginal deliveries, postpartum recovery, and newborn care required
