Description
Job Title: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
📍 Location: Washington, DC
📌 Distance Requirement: Candidates must reside 50 miles from the facility.
Contract Details
- Duration: 8 Weeks
- Shift: 3 x 12-Hour Day Shifts
Minimum Requirements
- Active RN license in the applicable state/district
- 2 years of recent NICU experience (3 years of Level III NICU experience strongly preferred)
- Experience in a Level III NICU
- Must be experienced with:
- Mechanical ventilators
- High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)
- Vasopressors
- Care of micro-preemies
- Required Certifications:
- STABLE
- NRP
- BLS
Unit Overview
The Level III NICU provides specialized care for critically ill newborns admitted primarily from Labor & Delivery. The patient population ranges from 23 weeks gestation through 4 months of age. The NICU team responds to neonatal emergencies, attends all C-sections and high-risk deliveries, and provides advanced assessment and immediate care for newborns requiring intensive monitoring and treatment.
Patient Population & Clinical Experience
Candidates should have experience caring for neonates with conditions including:
- Extreme prematurity
- Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)
- Sepsis
- Hypoglycemia
- Congenital anomalies
- Seizures
- Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS)
Clinical Skills
Experience with the following is highly preferred:
- Nasal CPAP
- Mechanical ventilation
- High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)
- Nitric oxide inhalation therapy
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Septic workups
- Neonatal intubation assistance
- Percutaneous catheter insertions
- Parenteral therapy
- Blood and blood product administration
- Bronchopulmonary hygiene
- Medication administration
- Continuous vital sign monitoring
- Parent and family education
