Registered Nurse – IV Therapy Team
Amergis Healthcare Services is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – IV Team to provide specialized intravenous therapy services across inpatient and community-based settings. This role supports diverse patient populations and functions as a clinical resource for advanced IV therapy, emergency access, and infection control practices under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
Position Details
- Location: Jamaica Plain, MA
- Facility: Lemuel Shattuck Hospital
- Facility Type: State Hospital
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks to start, with strong potential for extension
- Schedule: Mon- Fri and every other weekend/holiday, 7a-3:30p
- Start Date: 5/11
- Compensation:
- Local: $72/hour
- Travel: $3,500 gross per week
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the nursing process in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide skilled IV therapy management.
- Initiate and maintain peripheral IVs, heparin locks, PICC lines, midlines, long lines, and central lines in accordance with hospital policy.
- Assess IV sites daily for infiltration, phlebitis, and complications; troubleshoot and determine when line changes are required.
- Perform arterial blood gas sampling and function as a phlebotomist for STAT blood draws when needed.
- Respond to emergency situations including Code 300s and Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls; establish IV access and perform intraosseous insertion when necessary.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards and aseptic technique for all procedures.
- Document all procedures, interventions, and patient responses in compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, and federal/state regulations.
- Provide age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care to all patients.
- Assist ICU staff and function as a staff RN on nursing units when required.
- Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintain CPR and ACLS certification and engage in ongoing professional development and hospital training programs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of IV medications, admixtures, blood products, and emergency drugs
- Experience with central lines, PICCs, midlines, and ultrasound-guided access
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-acuity, high-stress environments
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, infection control, and documentation standards
- Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Acute Med/Surg experience
- Experience with ultrasound-guided PICC insertion
- Familiarity with state hospital or public-sector healthcare settings
