Job Opportunity
Position Summary
The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computer tomography procedures and related techniques to produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation, as well as assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform complex CT procedures with accuracy and professionalism.
- Utilize professional judgment to review and obtain the patient’s clinical history, ensuring documentation is scanned into PACS.
- Prepare and screen patients, reviewing the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family and scanning it into EPIC.
- Identify and administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Verify the appropriateness of the patient prescription and communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician if any clarifications are needed.
- Contact physicians to clarify prescriptions according to appropriate CT protocols.
- Verify insurance authorized exam scripts and send exam modification forms to Finance for re-verification.
- Acquire outside studies (CD) and schedule them in EPIC to ensure availability for comparison by Radiologists.
- Provide exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
- Evaluate radiographs using PACS System to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
- Gather relevant information from medical records and health care providers to develop scanning protocols that prioritize patient safety.
- Monitor and evaluate patient preparation for procedures and ensure they are ready for scanning.
- Prepare patients for scanning, including providing necessary shielding and immobilization devices.
- Determine appropriate type and dosage of contrast media to be administered.
- Deliver clear explanations and instructions to patients at a level they can understand, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Perform venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures in accordance with established guidelines.
- Monitor patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during procedures.
- Meet scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, contributing to ongoing quality patient care.
- Adhere to policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
- Lift a minimum of 25 lbs, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs, and stand for at least 6 hours a day.
- Identify and meet the diverse needs of the patient population served, modifying care as necessary based on age, culture, and other factors.
- Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and primary caregivers, tailored to their developmental and educational levels.
- Compliance with Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.
Required Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, as well as radiological positioning.
- Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
- Proficient in using PACS system.
- Maintain CEU Credits for professional development.
- Achieve ARRT (CT) certification within the first twelve months of employment.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Six months of experience in CT preferred.
- Knowledge of Epic and additional HIS/RIS systems utilized by the facility.
Education
- Required: Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program; High School diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: N/A
Certifications & Licensure
- Required: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License; ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Preferred: ARRT Certified R.T. (CT) license preferred.
Schedule Notes
- Schedule: Wednesday through Saturday, 9:30 PM - 8:00 AM (4 x 10).
- Weekend Requirement: Yes - Every Saturday.
- Holiday Requirement: Yes - 1 Holiday is Required.
