Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the 5th West Intermediate Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting. This is a night shift position, requiring 3 twelve-hour shifts per week.

Unit Details

• Location: Intermediate Care Unit
• Census: Daily average of 18 patients, with 20 beds available
• Patient Age Groups: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 for both day and night shifts
• Special Procedures: ICU stepdown care, post-rapid response team patients, management of unstable hemodynamics, respiratory distress, and post-operative care

Shift Details

• Shift: Night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• Scheduling: No block scheduling; self-scheduling available
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Pre-Approved Time Off: One request allowed

Required Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a relevant setting
• Experience working with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips
• Proficiency in telemetry and dysrhythmia management

Certifications

• Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Preferred Skills: IV therapy, phlebotomy, respiratory care, and management of tracheostomy

Special Skills and Equipment

• Experience with: Blood Product Administration, Central and Peripheral Line Care/Management, Chest Tubes, Non-invasive Airway Management, and Isolation Precautions
• Familiarity with special equipment including bedside telemetry monitors, BIPAP, and chest tubes
• Ability to recognize and treat dysrhythmias, manage cardiac and vasoactive drips

Additional Information

This position requires the ability to float to a sister unit as necessary. Orientation and training will take place in the first week, and candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
