Job Summary

The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computer tomography procedures and related techniques to produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. This role also involves assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs complex CT procedures using professional judgment.
• Reviews and obtains patient clinical history, ensuring accurate documentation in the PACS system.
• Prepares and reviews contrast questionnaires with patients or family members and documents the information in EPIC.
• Administers and identifies contrast media for CT exams as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
• Verifies the appropriateness of patient prescriptions for exams, communicating with Radiologists and Referring Physicians as needed.
• Clarifies prescriptions with physicians in line with established CT protocols.
• Ensures the insurance authorization for the exam is verified and liaises with the Finance department for any modifications.
• Obtains outside studies and schedules them in EPIC for comparison by Radiologists.
• Provides exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
• Evaluates radiographs using the PACS system for proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Collects relevant patient information from medical records and caregivers to prepare appropriate scanning protocols.
• Prepares patients for scanning, including the use of shielding and immobilization devices.
• Determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
• Communicates accurate instructions to patients in an understandable manner, addressing questions and concerns as needed.
• Performs venipuncture, evaluates IV patency, and conducts maintenance procedures as per guidelines.
• Monitors patient conditions for any adverse reactions during procedures.
• Ensures adherence to policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
• Maintains the physical ability to lift 25 lbs., push and pull at least 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
• Identifies and adapts care to meet the specific needs of diverse patient populations.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
• Understanding of CT software and hardware mechanics.
• Thorough familiarity with PACS systems.
• Active participation in Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
• ARRT (CT) certification must be achieved within twelve months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within three months of hire.

Education & Certifications

• Required Education: Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program; High School diploma or equivalent.
• Required Certifications: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License; ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license; AHA BLS Certification.
• Preferred Certifications: ARRT certified R.T. (CT) license.

Work Schedule

• Schedule primarily includes evening or overnight shifts, typically from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM or 1:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
• Weekend and holiday work required, with one holiday shift mandatory.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of two years of full-time experience as a CT technologist required.
• Preferred experience of five years or more in the field.
• Experience in a Trauma 1 or Stroke Center setting is highly preferred.
