Job Summary

The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. This position also supports interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Conduct complex CT procedures with accuracy and professionalism.
• Utilize professional judgment when obtaining and reviewing the patient's clinical history to ensure documentation is entered into the PACS system.
• Prepare, screen, and verify the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members, recording all relevant information in EPIC.
• Identify and administer contrast media for CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Review patient prescriptions for exam appropriateness; communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician when clarification is needed.
• Confirm insurance authorization and submit exam modification forms for re-verification as necessary.
• Request and schedule outside studies, ensuring compatibility with PACS for Radiologist review.
• Provide exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
• Evaluate radiographs using the PACS System to ensure proper identification and diagnostic quality.
• Gather relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers to ensure appropriate scanning protocols.
• Assess whether the patient is adequately prepared for the procedure.
• Prepare patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization as needed.
• Determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to administer based on exam requirements.
• Offer accurate explanations and instructions to patients, addressing questions and concerns as necessary.
• Perform venipuncture, IV maintenance, and monitor patients for adverse reactions during procedures.
• Maintain scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, to ensure continuous quality patient care.
• Adhere to standards of behavior and policies regarding attendance and punctuality.
• Conduct physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment as required.
• Adapt care delivery based on the specific needs of the patient population served, including considerations of age, culture, and physical ability.
• Follow the standards outlined in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.

Required Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, as well as radiological positioning techniques.
• Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Thorough knowledge of PACS systems.
• Maintain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required.
• Achieve ARRT (CT) certification within the first twelve months of hire.
• Obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within the first three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Six months of CT experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Epic and other Hospital Information Systems/ Radiology Information Systems (HIS/RIS) is beneficial.

Education

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program required.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License required.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• ARRT certified R.T.(CT) license preferred.

Schedule

This position is scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, with Fridays and Saturdays off.
