The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computer tomography procedures and producing detailed sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. The role also involves assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform complex CT procedures with professionalism and expertise.
• Review and obtain the patient’s clinical history for procedures, ensuring accurate documentation in PACS.
• Prepare and review the contrast questionnaire, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation in EPIC.
• Identify and administer contrast media for CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Review the patient prescription to verify exam appropriateness and communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for any necessary clarifications.
• Verify insurance authorized exam scripts and facilitate exam modification forms for re-verification.
• Obtain outside studies and schedule them in EPIC to ensure Radiologists have access to necessary files.
• Provide copies of exam results to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
• Evaluate radiographs using the PACS system for proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Gather relevant information from medical records and health care providers to prepare scanning protocols, ensuring patient safety.
• Confirm patient preparation is adequate prior to proceeding with procedures.
• Prepare patients for scanning, utilizing appropriate techniques such as shielding and immobilization devices.
• Determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
• Explain procedures and instructions to patients in an understandable manner, addressing questions and concerns as needed.
• Perform venipuncture and maintain IV patency according to established guidelines.
• Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during procedures.
• Adhere to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends.
• Fulfill overtime requirements to ensure continuous quality patient care.
• Comply with employee standards related to identification, behavior, attendance, and punctuality.
• Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
• Identify and address the specific needs of various patient populations.
• Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and families to meet their needs appropriately.
• Adhere to the organization’s competencies and behavior standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
• Understanding of CT software and hardware mechanisms.
• Proficient in the use of PACS systems.
• Maintain continuing education credits (CEU).
• Achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire.
• Obtain American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Six months of experience in CT preferred.
• Familiarity with Epic and any hospital information systems (HIS)/radiology information systems (RIS).

Education

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• ARRT certified R.T. (CT) license preferred.

Work Schedule

Shifts are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
