CT Scan Technologist

Job Summary

The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques to produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. This role also assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs complex CT procedures with professionalism and accuracy.
• Reviews and obtains the patient’s clinical history, ensuring documentation is accurate and uploaded into PACS.
• Prepares and screens the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family members, documenting it in EPIC.
• Identifies and administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Reviews patient prescriptions to verify the appropriateness of exams; communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for any necessary adjustments.
• Contacts physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with relevant CT protocols.
• Verifies insurance authorization for exams and submits modification forms to Finance for re-verification.
• Obtains outside studies (CD) and schedules them in EPIC to ensure relevant information is available for Radiologists.
• Provides copy of exams to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
• Evaluates radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Gathers relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers to prepare protocols that ensure patient safety.
• Assesses patient preparation for procedures and provides necessary pre-scanning preparations such as shielding and immobilization.
• Determines the proper type and dose of contrast to be administered.
• Communicates explanations and instructions effectively to patients, addressing any questions or concerns during the process.
• Performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures following established guidelines.
• Monitors the patient’s condition for adverse reactions during procedures.
• Adheres to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends, with flexibility for overtime as needed to ensure quality patient care.
• Complies with policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
• Physically capable of lifting a minimum of 25 lbs, pushing/pulling a minimum of 50 lbs, and standing for up to 6 hours a day.
• Identifies the needs of diverse patient populations and modifies care accordingly, ensuring effective communication.
• Maintains adherence to the standards identified in Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.

Required Skills & Experience

• Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
• Understanding of the mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Extensive knowledge of PACS systems.
• Holds current CEU credits.
• Achieves ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire.
• Obtains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Six months of CT experience.
• Familiarity with EPIC and HIS/RIS systems.

Education

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• New Jersey DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• ARRT Certified R.T. (CT) license preferred.

Schedule Requirements

• Shift: Nights, Monday - Thursday from 9 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Holiday and weekend shifts are required.
• On-call assignments are not required.
