Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a mixed acuity unit including medical, oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary patients.
- Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
- Care for unstable stroke patients and those on BiPAP.
- Experience with Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Insulin drips, Post Heart Cath, and Post Pacemaker care required.
- Must have solid neurological nursing experience.
- Accepting MS/Telemetry or PCU RNs only.
- Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts.
- Locals are NOT accepted for this position.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)
Licensure
- Must have Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary license in hand prior to start.
- Pending license accepted initially but must be valid before starting.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with solid neurological experience.
- Years of experience: Not explicitly stated, but solid neuro experience is emphasized (implies at least 1-2 years in neuro or related specialty).

Facility & Work Environment
- Short-Term Acute Care facility with 194 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Cerner.
- Parking: Free.

Pre-Employment & Compliance Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TB test within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions allowed with approval)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam required.
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (with supervisory titles).
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually.
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
- This position is NOT open to local candidates.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic mixed acuity environment with oncology, stroke, cardiac, and pulmonary patients.
