Job Opportunity: RN Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Newborn Nurse

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum Unit
• Bed Count: 25 beds total

  • 5 Labor & Delivery rooms
  • 12 Postpartum beds
  • 2 Operating Rooms
  • 2 Recovery Rooms
  • 2 Antepartum Nursery rooms (4 beds)
• Average Daily Census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and labors
• Clinician to Patient Ratios:

  • Labor & Delivery: 1:2-3 during evaluations, 1:1 during active labor, magnesium drip, or epidural
  • Postpartum: 1:3-4
• Charting System: EPIC
• Floating: Not required
• Shift: Nights and every other weekend (EOW) with 1 night of call (36 or 48 hours)
• Rotating Shifts: Day rotate position primarily day with rotation to evenings and nights as needed (no straight days due to union agreement)

Required Experience & Skills

• Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years in specialty
• Specialty Skills:

  • Labor & Delivery
  • Postpartum care
  • Circulating in OR
  • Newborn care

Licenses & Certifications Required

• Current Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - renewal every 2 years
• Influenza vaccine (required during flu season, Sept 15 - April 30)
• TB test (skin test or blood test within 3 months of start date)
• Fit test for N95 respirator (within 365 days)
• Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA (within 365 days)
• Criminal background checks and CORI (Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information)
• Additional preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Additional Requirements

• Must pass medication and dysrhythmia exams (80% passing score within 365 days)
• MGB Skills Checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission
• Two recent references required (minimum one supervisor or above in skillset)
• Respirator Medical Clearance attestation if fit test required
• Education verification and various background checks including SSN trace, national sex offender check, and exclusion checks

Prior Travel Experience

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery and Postpartum RNs who are comfortable with night shifts and rotating schedules, and who meet the required certifications and licensure for Massachusetts.
