Description

Registered Nurse (Psychiatric) - Holyoke, MA

Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Schedule: Full-time, includes every other weekend and every other holiday
Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse to join a new behavioral health hospital specializing in psychiatric, emotional, and substance use treatments. This role involves providing direct and indirect care within a therapeutic environment, working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.


Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in a psychiatric inpatient setting
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic milieu based on core behavioral health principles
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to develop, implement, and document individualized patient treatment plans
  • Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
  • Float to similar or lower acuity units when required
  • Take charge responsibilities (no multiplier for charge pay)

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience required
  • Previous inpatient psychiatric or substance use experience preferred
  • CPR certification required
  • Experience with restraint reduction, de-escalation, and crisis intervention preferred

Skills

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of behavioral health and substance abuse treatment modalities
  • Ability to apply nursing process from a trauma-informed recovery model
  • Strong therapeutic relationship skills while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and typing skills
  • Crisis management, time management, delegation, coaching, and team-building skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and ability to manage stressful situations calmly and professionally

Additional Information

  • Must be willing to float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
  • Must work every other weekend and every other holiday
