Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience (higher requirement takes precedence)
- Prior Travel Experience: No first-time travelers; prior travel experience required
- Licensure: Active RN license in Tennessee
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
- NRP (AHA Advanced only)
- AWHONN Intermediate
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN required)
- Additional Experience:
- At least 1 year of EPIC experience
- Skills/Procedures:
- Triage assessments
- Inductions
- Cesareans
- External versions
- NSTs
- Circumcisions
- Newborn resuscitation/stabilization
- Magnesium Sulfate administration
- Floating: Floating to other units required but only within skill set
- Schedule: Weekend coverage and call required
Orientation and Training
- Completion of online modules within 72 hours of assignment (approx. 12 hours) is mandatory before starting
- Pass/Fail testing (medication and fetal monitoring exams) required prior to orientation
- 16 hours of non-billable orientation onsite
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 12 months, including multi-state and alias searches
- Drug screening within 1 year, updated annually (5-panel minimum)
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working/floating in high-risk areas)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (not required for 100% remote)
- Respirator Fit Test completed onsite during orientation
- Photo for badge with specific background and quality requirements
Competency and Testing
- Annual medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Core training parts I, II, and III annually (including OSHA, patient safety, ethics, etc.)
- Pass/Fail testing for fetal monitoring with a minimum passing score of 84% (two attempts allowed)
- Additional competencies as required by unit
Additional Notes
- Floating policy must be signed (not required for non-clinical roles)
- HIPAA and safety manual acknowledgments required
- Must carry valid driver's license for computer access setup
- No first-time travelers accepted; must have completed at least one prior travel contract
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable with a variety of L&D procedures and floating within their skill set. The role requires strong compliance with certifications, immunizations, and facility-specific training/testing protocols.
