Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Elizabeth, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Work Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Float: Will float to Med Surg if not needed in telemetry; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5-7
  • Charting System: Allscripts
  • Patient Mix / Skill Requirements:
    • CHF
    • Stroke
    • Renal failure with fluid overload
    • Stable non-STEMI
    • Post cardiac cath/post staged-PCI
    • Able to read rhythm strips and intervene

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers are not preferred (prior travel experience recommended)
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Preferred/Required Certifications (depending on unit):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Not required for this role
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Not required for this role
    • Chemotherapy Certification – As applicable
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – Not required for this role
    • Other certifications as applicable based on float units and hospital needs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and alias checks required
    • Must have no open cases to start
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
    • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • Drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
    • Fit test and respiratory clearance as required
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for telemetry units)
    • Color blind testing if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Orientation & Training:
    • Facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment
    • Annual education sign-off
    • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge
    • Vendor medical clearance if history of positive TB
  • References & Work History:
    • Two references within last 2 years (one managerial)
    • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
    • Work history verification per New Jersey state requirements

Additional Notes

  • Facility does not accept travel pairs.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Must be able to float to other units as needed.
  • Prior travel experience is preferred; first-time travelers may not be considered favorably.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with telemetry and medical-surgical skills who are comfortable floating and working in a dynamic hospital environment. Compliance with all certifications, health screenings, and competency exams is mandatory.
