Job Opportunity: Pediatric IV Therapy Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description

  • Must have ultrasound-guided IV placement and vein finder experience.
  • Experience on a pediatric vascular access team is required.
  • Pediatric Vascular Access (VAS) experience required, including areas such as Hematology/Oncology (HemeOnc), ICU, and care for pediatric to adult populations.
  • IV placement skills are essential.
  • Weekend shifts are required.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
  • Day/Night rotation with 12-hour shifts.
  • Shift start times: 7 AM, 11 AM, 7 PM.
  • Shift rotations include:
    • 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
    • 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM
    • 3:00 PM - 3:30 AM

Required Experience and Certifications

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Pediatric IV Therapy / Vascular Access).
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Additional Preferred/Required Certifications (depending on unit):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for certain pediatric intensive care units if assignment extends beyond 13 weeks.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for most clinical/allied positions.
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – preferred for NICU.
    • CHEMO certification – required for Oncology.
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – required for Labor & Delivery.
  • Professional certification verification must be completed within 30 days prior to start.
  • State RN license verification required within 30 days prior to start.

Schedule and Work Environment

  • Acute Care Facility with Magnet status.
  • NICU Level III/IV and Trauma Level I.
  • Total staffed beds: 485.
  • Charting system: EPIC.
  • Scrub color: Any solid color allowed on all units except OR (provided) and SPT (any color, not provided).
  • Parking: Discounted day passes and free parking for night shifts.

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of name change documentation if applicable.
  • Background checks including 10-year criminal history, nationwide and state-specific sanctions, and exclusions.
  • Massachusetts CORI release required within 60 days of start.
  • Various facility-specific health and safety requirements including:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
    • Immunizations: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine (seasonal), COVID-19 vaccine or approved exemptions.
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes.
    • Drug screening (9-panel) within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses).
    • Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety) required for all travelers.
  • Two professional references from two of the last three employers.
  • Employment application with 10-year work history and explanation for gaps over 30 days.
  • Skills checklist specific to scope of practice within one year prior to start.
