Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location:

Job Description

  • Work on a mixed acuity unit including medical patients and some PCU (Progressive Care Unit) level of care patients.
  • Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care.
  • Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4.
  • Care includes managing cardizem, amiodarone, insulin drips.
  • Will care for unstable stroke patients and patients on BiPAP.
  • The unit is dynamic, combining medical-surgical and progressive care.
  • Must have solid neurological nursing experience.
  • Accepting RNs with experience in MS/Telemetry or PCU.

Shift:
3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Current Indiana state RN license, compact license, or Indiana temporary license must be in hand prior to start (pending licenses accepted initially)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Neurology experience
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Facility & Work Environment

  • Short-Term Acute Care facility
  • Mixed acuity unit with oncology, stroke, cardiac, GI, and pulmonary patients
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB test within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (no declinations accepted)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit competency exam
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years), with supervisory titles

Additional Notes

  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (not applicable to this PCU RN role).
  • Orientation and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed as a priority.
  • HIPAA acknowledgment and other facility-specific documents required prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong neurological and progressive care skills looking for a travel contract in Indiana.
