Registered Nurse (RN) – General Surgery

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in General Surgery (Major) to work in an operating room setting. The role involves supporting a busy surgical department with a variety of cases including laparoscopic and robotic surgeries.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in general surgery cases such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, colon, appendectomy, cystoscopy, DaVinci robotic cases, hysterectomy, vascular, ENT, and urology procedures.
• Collaborate with surgical technologists and other OR staff.
• Follow block scheduling with shifts of either 7:00 AM–5:30 PM or 12:30 PM–11:00 PM, totaling 36 to 40 hours per week.
• Participate in call rotation approximately once per week with a 30-minute response time. Call hours vary between afternoon and overnight shifts.
• May float to other surgery teams or sterile processing department if qualified.
• Adhere to hospital dress code with provided scrubs.
• Complete unit-specific orientation up to one week if needed, plus hospital-wide orientation.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois or proof that the application process has been initiated.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in general surgery, gynecology, urology, and ENT.
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system.
• Experience in facilities and ORs of similar size within the last 2 years preferred.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive drug screen (drug-free campus policy).

Additional Information

• Average number of general surgery cases per day: 20–40.
• Call shifts include evening and overnight hours with a sleep policy providing 8 hours off if working more than 4 hours past 11:00 PM.
• Weekend call is every other or every third weekend depending on need.
• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours.
• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.

This position is ideal for an experienced OR nurse with strong general surgery skills and EPIC EMR proficiency, comfortable with call responsibilities and a structured schedule.
