Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)


Job Description

  • Provide, coordinate, and direct home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Conduct home visits with an average patient load of 5-8 patients per day.
  • Types of cases include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and required liability insurance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic; average weekly travel is 250-300 miles.
  • Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
  • Weekend rotation: approximately 1 weekend per month.
  • On-call requirement: approximately 1 weekend per month.
  • Charting proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (for RNs).
  • Dress code: Scrubs.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Home Health or Hospice care, specifically within the last year.
  • Experience working with adult patients in a Home Health setting.
  • Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS documentation systems.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Reliable transportation and current driver's license.
  • Must carry agency-required liability insurance.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete various background checks including state-specific and federal screenings.
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, confirming good health and no communicable diseases.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Drug screening (10-panel) required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or declination required.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Verification of at least two most recent employers or last 7 years of work history.
  • Completion of compliance and policy training, including HIPAA, confidentiality, and home health/hospice core policies.
  • Must review and sign various compliance, confidentiality, and policy documents prior to start.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Home health setting with patient visits in the community.
  • Must be comfortable working independently in patients' homes.
  • Ability to manage workload and documentation efficiently.
  • Flexibility for occasional weekend and on-call duties.
  • Must be willing to travel within the assigned territory.
