Description
Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
- Patient ratio: 1:6
- Float to help meet staffing needs
- Will accept pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above depending on procedure
- Surgical specialties include general surgery, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine, bariatric surgery
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Conditions & Policies
- Must work holidays according to policy (if 1 holiday in assignment, expect to work it; if 2 holidays, expect to work 1; if 3 holidays, expect to work 2)
- Local radius rule: candidates living within 50 miles are not accepted
- Cannot guarantee block scheduling but will try to group shifts if available
Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) may be required if working with pediatric patients
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government issued photo ID
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
- Immunizations/vaccinations including:
- Tdap within past 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B - positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Fit mask testing (N95 preferred), updated annually
- Required facility-specific documents and acknowledgements prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, standards of appearance, social media policy, compliance forms)
- 2 professional references required
- Current application/resume required
- Skills checklist updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed
- Pediatric surgical patients accepted only if 12 years or older and depending on procedure
- Onsite fit testing and drug screening may be required
- Medical/religious exemptions for flu vaccine require specific forms and approval
