Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MedSurg Telemetry Nights
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Job Description
- Position: MedSurg Telemetry Registered Nurse (Nights)
- Patient ratio: 1:7
- Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (OT after 48 hours)
- Work schedule includes nights, weekdays, every other weekend (EOW), float, and holidays within contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience working with neurology and stroke patients
- Proficient with Epic electronic medical record system
Compliance & Background
- Zero tolerance for any license or background issues
- 7-year criminal background check required within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Must provide all required documentation including current NURSYS report and Qualivis Cover Sheet
- Fingerprinting required (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) effective 1/1/2026
Required Health Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
- Immunizations and titers within 10 years or appropriate declinations:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (required for certain units)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (or approved exemption with mask requirement)
- COVID vaccine preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Pass/fail EKG/medication competency testing at orientation (80% minimum, one attempt only)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing (100% passing score required)
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Passport-style photo for badge prior to start
- Proof of 2 professional references
- Completed employment application/resume
- Performance evaluation if previously worked with the facility for 1 year or more
Notes
- Must be willing to float and work holidays as scheduled
- Candidate must be pre-closed on patient ratio before submission
- All required documents and certifications must be current and verifiable
