Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Assigned to Emergency Department (ED) Surge unit, specifically caring for inpatient/Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) level holds within the ED.
- Patient diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, heart failure, sepsis, overdose, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, trauma, oncology, orthopedic overflow, post-catheterization with stent (no CABG), ICD/pacer insertions, and cardioversions.
- Manage and titrate drips such as Lasix, Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Integrillin, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine.
- Use specialized equipment including Bipap, Cpap, Vapotherm, Alaris Pumps, and Phillips Monitoring System.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Hampshire
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience, with Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Complete Social Security Verification and background checks within 30 days prior to start, including:
- National Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal Search
- FACIS Level 3
- Education Verification
- Criminal county/state searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police search required instead)
- Motor Vehicle Background Check if driving to patient homes (for Home Health/Hospice roles)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (no exceptions).
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Respiratory Safety Clearance questionnaire required.
- Two current professional references within the last 3 years, including one from a supervisor or charge RN.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Annual internal evaluation required for travelers with 1+ year tenure.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year prior to start, or negative chest x-ray if past positive TB. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or immunity documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declinations accepted with waiver)
- Varicella (history of disease not accepted)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years; titers not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually between October 31 and April 1. Medical or religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation and facility-specific waiver forms.
- Hepatitis B vaccine waiver required if declining vaccine.
- Fit mask test annually (N95 or equivalent masks). CAPR training available on site if fit test fails.

Testing and Competency Requirements
- Pass/fail Basic Dysrhythmia (EKG) HealthStream exam onsite for certain units; passing score 80%.

- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred.
- Various state-specific releases and authorizations required (e.g., NH Statewide Release).
- Facility-specific immunization waiver forms for flu, Hep B, and Tdap available for medical or religious exemptions.
- Background check and compliance attestations must be completed prior to clearance.
