Description

Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Night shifts, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Approximately 36 hours per week

Unit and Patient Population

  • Experience with multiple ICU units including:
    • Neuro ICU
    • Cardiothoracic ICU
    • Burn ICU
    • Trauma Surgery ICU
  • Also includes Intermediate Care (IMC), Progressive Care, and General Care populations

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Burn ICU experience
  • Float experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Screening Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including nationwide and multi-location search for past 7 years
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems after hire
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening within 90 days of start (state-mandated)
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
  • Physical exam (collected to meet agency standard, not facility-required)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB test or chest X-ray with questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof
    • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in Microbiology (if applicable)

Testing and Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required annually and prior to start
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment
  • Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail testing for telemetry
  • National certification verification as applicable
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration

Documentation and Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Completion of flu exemption forms if applicable
  • Completion of rhythm interpretation course if remediation needed after telemetry test failures
  • Wisconsin BID form (state-mandated)

References and History

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)
