Description

Registered Nurse - Surgical Room

Job Type

  • Contractor
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Location

  • Milwaukee, WI (Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet Designation, Primary Stroke Center)

Specialty

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty
  • Not recommended for first-time travel nurses without prior evaluation

Required Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Required Skills and Procedures

  • Experience as RN circulator; scrubbing experience recommended
  • Neuro/ENT surgeries including:
    • Spine: Laminectomies, ALIFs, Fusions, Discectomies
    • Cranial: Tumors, VP shunts, Subdural, EVDs (no setup required)
    • ENT: Neck dissections with flaps, Sinus Surgery (Stealth Navigation), Tonsillectomy, Tympanoplasty
  • Orthopedic surgeries including fractures, anterior hips, total joints, spine, hand, podiatry
  • General surgeries including breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, oncology, genitourinary, gynecology
  • Robotics (XI) experience required for robotic cases; no training provided unless strong background and commitment for more than one contract
  • Navigation systems familiarity: Medtronic (Cranial & Spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), Stryker & Synaptive (Cranial)
  • Equipment: Hanna Table

Work Environment and Support

  • Patient ratio: 1:1
  • OR beds: 21
  • Charting systems: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis
  • Support from charge nurse, leads, supervisors, and manager
  • Floating: Cross-trained to General Main OR and Urology center only; no floating to other hospitals/sites

Orientation and Scheduling

  • Orientation: 1 to 1.5 weeks depending on team and shift
  • Shift: 10-hour evening shift, 40 hours per week
  • Variable start times between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM for day shifts; evening shift details depend on position
  • Weekend rotation: Not applicable
  • Holiday weeks: Option to work 4 ten-hour shifts or take holiday unpaid

On-Call Requirements

  • 30-minute response time
  • 8-week call schedule (subject to change)
  • Call slots vary by specialty and shift (general/neuro/ortho)

  • Surgical scrubs provided; scrub caps allowed but must be covered by surgical bouffant
  • Free parking and shuttle service available
  • Food options on campus include Starbucks and cafeteria
  • No call rooms available
