Description
Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
- Day shift: 06:30 - 17:00
- Evening shift: 13:00 - 23:30
- Occasional weekends required
- On-call requirement: 4 hours every 6 weeks (subject to change)
- Nurses must be able to arrive within 1 hour when called in
- On-call blocks include early morning and late-night hours on weekdays and weekends
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Post-Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU), with experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with central line management
- Experience caring for trached patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- IV therapy (IV Stars)
- Ventilator management
- Varied PACU experience across multiple practice settings, preferably academic
- Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not required
Unit Information
- The ideal candidate has experience caring for a wide variety of acutely ill pediatric patients in PACU settings
- Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery care experience is heavily preferred
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Must pass a 7-year criminal background check including:
- County civil searches
- State and national criminal databases
- Sex offender registry
- Global sanctions and exclusion lists (updated annually)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (accepted if completed after age 11)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer or vaccines)
- Varicella (titer or vaccines or documented prior infection)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per protocol
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct-Mar)
- Respirator medical clearance and fit testing required (N95 and CAPR/PAPR)
- Photo for badge required on a blue background within 72 hours of contract signing
Training and Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
- Math test and EKG/dysrhythmia competency exams required onsite or through designated platforms
- Respiratory protection training provided via facility learning platform
- Candidates must complete all assigned competency and skills checklists relevant to pediatric PACU nursing
Additional Notes
- Candidates may be required to float to other pediatric units; pediatric competency exams and skills checklists support this flexibility
- Returning candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts may have some documentation accepted from previous contracts
- Meal waiver agreement available but not mandatory unless candidate opts to waive second meal period
