Description
Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
- Day shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Evening shift: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Occasional weekends required
- On-call requirement: 4 hours every 6 weeks (subject to change)
- On-call hours include early morning and late-night blocks on weekdays and weekends
- Nurses must be able to arrive within 1 hour when called in
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU), with experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience with central line management
- Current certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Experience
- IV therapy (IV Stars)
- Ventilator management
- Prior travel nursing experience
Unit Information
- Best candidates have diverse PACU experience across multiple practice settings, ideally including academic medical centers
- Exposure to a wide variety of acutely ill pediatric patients is preferred
Compliance and Screening Requirements
- Background check including 7-year criminal history, civil searches, national criminal database, sex offender registry, and others as required
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug test within 1 year of start
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Respirator medical clearance and fit testing (N95 and CAPR/PAPR) required prior to start; fit testing on-site not allowed
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (accepted if given after age 11)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – titers or vaccines with boosters as needed
- Varicella – titer or 2 vaccines, boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B – positive titer, completed vaccine series, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct–March)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- COVID-19 vaccine strongly recommended but not required
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required
- PACU and pediatric competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain critical care areas (PICU, CICU, NICU, ER) – may apply depending on float assignments
- Math test administered onsite upon arrival (proctored) with remediation if needed
- Skills checklists for pediatric and unit-specific competencies required
Training and Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to start (approximately 8 hours)
- Modules include respiratory protection training and Epic inpatient nurse test-out modules if assigned
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing (blue background, no hats or headwear)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to meet on-call requirements similar to staff nurses
- Returning candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts may have some documentation accepted from previous contracts (e.g., physical exam, background check, drug screen, TB test)
- Facility encourages use of public transportation; parking access available via ID badge with payroll deduction authorization if applicable
