Risk & Patient Safety Manager, RN
Location: Cody, Wyoming
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, Monday to Friday
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
The Risk & Patient Safety Manager, RN supports organizational risk management and patient safety initiatives. This role involves incident investigation, evaluation of patient safety events, claims management, data analysis to identify trends, and collaboration with operational leaders to develop and implement performance improvement actions. The position requires active participation in quality improvement projects and compliance monitoring related to risk management and patient safety.
Essential Functions
- Lead at least two patient safety performance improvement projects annually.
- Oversee and administer the event reporting program.
- Analyze data to identify trends and collaborate on action plans with hospital leaders.
- Participate in compliance monitoring for state and federal risk management and patient safety regulations.
- Coordinate adverse event investigations, including Root Cause Analysis and Sentinel Event investigations.
- Facilitate or participate in LEAN and other quality improvement teams and projects.
- Manage relationships and projects with external organizations focused on patient safety and risk mitigation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of risk management and patient safety regulations and standards.
- Serve as a resource for leaders, employees, and medical staff on risk management and patient safety issues.
- Prepare annual statistical and claims data reports identifying trends affecting patient care safety.
- Assist with claims management and maintain documentation through resolution.
- Conduct chart reviews to identify potential risk or patient safety concerns and communicate findings appropriately.
- Provide education on risk management and patient safety topics to staff and medical personnel.
- Manage the patient complaint and grievance program, ensuring timely investigation and follow-up.
- Assist with policy and procedure development related to risk management and patient safety.
- Support chart abstraction and reporting to CMS or other regulatory bodies as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse license in Wyoming.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- At least 5 years of healthcare experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of hospital risk management, patient safety, performance improvement, and regulatory requirements.
- Certification as a Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred; if not certified, must obtain within one year of hire.
- Training or experience in LEAN methodologies, Performance Improvement, Risk Management, or Patient Safety preferred.
Additional Information
- Must not have a permanent address within 100 miles of the facility location.
- Timely start of assignment is required; delays due to licensure issues are exceptions.
