Registered Nurse - Med-Surg Unit (Night Shift)

Location: Fort Defiance, Arizona
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care on a 20-bed medical-surgical unit serving adult geriatrics and pediatric patients.
• Patient ratios:

  • Non-COVID: typically 4:1, max 5:1
  • COVID: typically 2:1, max 3:1
• May assist with flu immunization clinics as needed.
• Occasional floating to other qualified departments for patient care or task-oriented duties.
• Expected to attend staff meetings.

Shift Details

• 12-hour night shifts primarily.
• Typical schedule: 36 hours one week, 48 hours the next, plus up to 1 on-call shift per week.
• Must be flexible to work other shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Maximum of two shift call-offs allowed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 3 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with pediatric patients
• Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Additional Information

• Orientation occurs on Mondays only; missing compliance deadlines delays start to next orientation.
• Staffing ratios and patient acuity require adaptability and competence in multiple patient populations.
