Job Opportunity: Cardio Thoracic ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), 3 shifts per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Cardiothoracic ICU (CVICU) with night shifts and every other weekend coverage; some holidays required, no on-call.
- Experience required with Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
- Must have experience and knowledge of NextStage Continuous Venovenous Hemofiltration (CVVH) machine.
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred.
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
- Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Arrhythmia experience.
Testing and Competency Requirements
- Must pass facility-specific Telemetry test (Adult Telemetry Test via LMS platform) with:
- Minimum 80% overall score.
- 100% accuracy in lethal rhythms and 3rd degree heart block questions.
- Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failed attempt. Failure after 3rd attempt results in contract cancellation.
- Telemetry test must be completed within the same calendar year and prior to start date.
- Additional competency exams as applicable to profession and specialty.
Licensure and Background Checks
- Wisconsin BID Form and Caregiver Screening required prior to start.
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search.
- Education verification as applicable.
- Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes; TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 doses or positive titers.
- Varicella – 2 doses or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season).
- Other vaccines or declinations as required by department or facility policy.
Additional Compliance and Documentation
- Physical exam (to meet agency standard, not facility required).
- Signed acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing policies.
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons).
- Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.
- Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard).
