Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Medical Surgical
Location

Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Active New York State LPN license (NY is not a Compact state)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted)
Required Experience and Skills
- Acute care experience within the last 2 years
- Ability to manage own patient assignment with RN support
- Clinical skills including:
- Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring
- Isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling
- Oxygen administration via nasal cannula
- Feeding tube management
- Telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG
- Medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops)
- IV therapy with pumps, blood glucose monitoring
- Basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains)
- Bathing and mouth care
- Foley catheter insertion (male/female), clean catch urine collection
- Communication of status changes to RN/MD
- Experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry care setting
Unit and Patient Population
- Medical patients with conditions such as COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues
- Nurse-to-patient ratio during day shifts: 1:5-6
- Floating within skillset required
Charting System
- EPIC experience required
Scheduling Notes
- Must submit time off and special scheduling requests upon application
- The client may cancel up to three shifts during the contract without penalty
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and others as applicable
- Physical exam and health-related requirements must be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year
- Facility-specific onboarding documents and attestations required
- References and employment verifications required as per agency policy
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid LPN/LVN license in New York
- Minimum of 1 year Long Term Care experience within the last year
- Medical-Surgical experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Magnet-recognized, acute care teaching hospital with advanced stroke and surgical programs. The role requires strong clinical skills in a medical-surgical telemetry environment and the ability to work night shifts with weekend and holiday coverage.
