Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location:

  • Lafayette, Indiana

Employment Type:

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length:

  • 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

  • Mixed Acuity Unit including medical patients and some Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care patients
  • Unit specialties include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care
  • Patient ratios:
    • Medical-Surgical (MS) / Telemetry (Tele) patients: 1:5-6
    • PCU patients: 1:3-4
  • Care involves managing unstable stroke patients, BiPAP, and drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
  • Dynamic environment requiring solid neurological nursing experience
  • Accepting RNs with MS/Telemetry or PCU experience

Shift & Hours

  • Day shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
  • Total hours per week: 48

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Current state nursing license (Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary license must be in hand prior to start)

Licensure

  • Pending license accepted if Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary license is obtained before start date

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (official transcript or diploma)
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment, verified within 2 years, with supervisory titles
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
  • Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

Competency Requirements

  • Unit competency exam required
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Solid neurological nursing experience

  • Locals are NOT accepted for this travel contract
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking available
  • Scrub color: red top, black bottoms
  • Must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required (including HIPAA)
