Description
Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shifts, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
- Some holidays required
Job Description
- Provide nursing care for ICU and Intermediate Care (IMC) patient populations
- ICU experience is required; neurosurgery experience preferred
- Must have experience working with ICU and IMC patients
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Telemetry test must be passed prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 1 year of Neuro ICU nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required
- Education verification as applicable
- Drug screening per standard clinical requirements
- Physical exam (to meet agency standard)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray with questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Varicella vaccination or titer, with exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (required annually during flu season)
- Other vaccines/declinations as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)
Testing and Competency Exams
- Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable) required annually, with strict passing criteria:
- Minimum 80% overall score
- 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
- 100% in heart block questions (clinical review if less than 100%)
- Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation after 2nd failure
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge must be submitted prior to start (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- References: 2 clinical references within last 3 years required (agency standard)
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required
- Facility-specific forms for communicable diseases, vaccine exemptions, and declinations must be completed as applicable
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with night shifts and telemetry monitoring, who hold the required Wisconsin licensure and certifications, and are ready to work in a neuro ICU environment with a diverse critical care patient population.
