Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on Medical Surgical unit (a3/C3)
- Float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
- Night shift staffing ratio approximately 1:5 or 1:6
- No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in the region
Required Qualifications
- Current New York RN license
- Minimum 2 years of acute hospital nursing experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- EPIC electronic health record system experience required
- Must be willing to float to other units as needed based on skillset and manager discretion
Immunizations & Health Requirements
- Flu vaccine required by December 5th; medical or religious exemptions must be approved at least 2 weeks prior to start
- Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold test within 1 year of start (T-spot tests not accepted)
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific lab and panel requirements apply)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; must complete specific medical history forms during occupational health appointment
- N95 mask fit test required (quantitative test only accepted if done externally)
- Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test required prior to start (can be completed onsite)
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required for all RNs per New York State regulations
Testing & Competencies
- Must pass advanced EKG/ECG competency exam with a minimum 90% score within 72 hours of contract signing (100% on lethal rhythms required)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- NIH Stroke certification required for certain units; facility may assign certification during orientation if not on file
Documentation & Onboarding Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Passport-style photo for badge (plain background, head and shoulders visible)
- Background checks including 7-year search, SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (updated annually)
- FCRA Authorization Release form signed prior to start
- Lift assessment (typically 25 lbs, may vary by position) completed during occupational health appointment
- Completion of virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules via online learning system prior to start date
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not reside in specified local counties to be eligible
- Flu season protocols may require mask wearing if exemption is approved
- Occupational health services (physical, fit test, questionnaires) billed to agency
- References: 2 professional references required for travel, allied, and per diem acute care roles
