Description
Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Medical-Surgical/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 (MedSurg level)
- Floating: Required
- Patient Population: Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general med-surg, including continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
- Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial and central lines, titrated medicated IV infusions
- Unit Size: 26 beds
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of experience in PCU - Progressive Care Unit, with recent experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg experience
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start) covering multiple substances
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background and Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Education verification from primary source (required unless CNA)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
- Employment verification of at least 2 past employments (Aya direct candidates)
- References: 2 within 3 years (Aya only)
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required
- Color blindness testing (one-time)
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and orientation safety manual acknowledgment
Additional Notes
- The unit is part of a tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
- Candidates must be adaptable, vigilant, and able to provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary team environment
