Description
Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Medical-Surgical Step-Down Unit (MSDU)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio
- Floating: Required
- Unit Description:
- Intermediate Care unit with 26 beds, critical care step-down level
- Patient population includes adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general med-surg
- Continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring for all patients
- Care for patients needing airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial and central lines, titrated IV infusions
- Multi-disciplinary team approach with emphasis on vigilance and compassionate care
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Epic
Candidate Requirements
- First-time travelers accepted
- Local candidates must reside within a 75-mile radius of the facility
Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following within 5 days of contract signing:
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire as applicable
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background and Verification
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check (including felony, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
- Education verification from primary source required (not applicable for CNA)
- Employment application and work history verification required
- References required for travel agency candidates (2 references within 3 years)
- NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
- Facility-specific onboarding documents and attestations required
Work Hours
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts x 12 hours)
Facility and Environment
- Tertiary care hospital setting with 528 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized step-down unit providing critical care to complex patients with a variety of acute needs. Candidates must be adaptable, skilled in telemetry and emergency response, and comfortable with a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
