Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7 PM – 7 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required
Local Radius: Must live within 75 miles

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on a combined Acute Stroke and Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders.
• Manage patient ratios between 1:5 and 1:7.
• Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response/code teams.
• Perform peripheral IV line care and management.
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management.
• Adhere to isolation precautions.
• Charting must be completed using EPIC electronic health record system.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to float to other units as needed.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing, including but not limited to:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask testing (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• Background checks required within 3 months of start, including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and education verification.
• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance modules required.

Work Environment

• Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds.
• Acute Stroke Unit is a 39-bed combined unit.
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white.

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required.
• References and employment verification are required for agency compliance but not by the facility.
• Floating to other units is mandatory.
• Must be able to work every other weekend on night shift.
