Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) – a critical care step-down unit with 26 beds
• Patient Population: Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general medical-surgical units, including continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
• Patient Care: Includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial lines, central lines, and titrated medicated IV infusions
• Patient Ratio: Must be able to manage a 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio
• Floating: Required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Facility & Work Environment

• Tertiary care hospital setting with 528 staffed beds
• The unit receives patients from Emergency Department, PACU, ICU, and medical-surgical floors
• Team-oriented, multidisciplinary approach with a focus on evidence-based, compassionate care

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, national sex offender registry, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Various certifications and verifications required within 30 days of start, including:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
  • State license primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • NIH Stroke Certification updated annually
• Health requirements to be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• Required documentation includes photo for badge, employment application, skills checklist, work history verification, and references (for agency use)
