Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6:30pm - 7:00am)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care to Emergency Department patients using the Nursing Process in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership to ensure safe patient care delivery.
  • Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education.
  • Delegate patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.
  • Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel delivering patient care.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
  • Administer medications and monitor for side effects.
  • Apply strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care.
  • Adhere to safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work in a Level 3 Trauma Emergency Department with a patient ratio of 4:1.
  • Floating and call responsibilities are required.
  • Call requirement: must be reachable at least 2 hours prior to shift start.
  • Blocked scheduling and 48-hour guarantees are not approved.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) blackout dates include 1 summer and 1 winter date, dependent on department needs. Maximum RTO allowed is 1 per schedule (6-week scheduling).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC

  • Scrub color: None specified; full uniform required.
