Registered Nurse (OR) - Boston, Massachusetts
Job Overview
- Level 1 Trauma Facility seeking Travel Nurses for the Operating Room (OR) unit.
- Weekend rotations and call are expected.
- Must have experience working in a Level 1 trauma center.
- Travel nursing experience preferred.
- Scrubbing experience with Neuro, Ortho, and Trauma cases is a plus but not required.
- Nurses work 12-hour shifts on weekends in rotation with other staff; 8-hour shifts may be scheduled during the week.
- Shift options include 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts totaling 36 to 40 hours per week (to be discussed during interview).
- Night shifts available.
Unit Details
- 23 OR suites.
- Approximately 75 cases per day.
- EMR system: EPIC.
- Charge nurse present on all shifts (charge nurse does not take patient assignments).
- Self-scheduling allowed within reason; block scheduling not guaranteed.
- No floating requirements.
- Hospital-issued scrub color/dress code.
Call and Scheduling
- Call response time: 45 minutes.
- Call requirements:
- Weeknights: 3-4 calls per 4-week period.
- Weekends: 1 call shift per 4-week period.
- Perioperative call expectations:
- Travelers take the same amount of call as permanent staff.
- Call centers assigned; call duties may include circulator and tech roles.
- RN’s may sign up for tech call spots but can be bumped if needed.
- Call begins at the end of shifts ending at 3:30 PM or 5:30 PM; extended shifts require separate call coverage.
- Circulator call staff may cover cardiac and eye cases depending on call center assignment.
- Neuro/Ortho call specifics:
- 3 weekday call shifts per month (evenings or nights).
- Some staff rotate taking 2 weekend shifts per month; others take 1 weekend shift.
- Center 1 call specifics:
- 3 weekday call shifts per month (evenings or nights).
- Some staff rotate taking 2 weekend shifts per month; others take 1 weekend shift.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS certification required.
- Experience with trauma, ortho, neuro, cardiac, and exploratory laparotomy (ex lap) cases during night shifts.
- Must have prior travel nursing experience.
- Must have prior Level 1 trauma center experience.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks.
Additional Information
- Immediate start required; contract must end by June 1st.
- Manager interviews candidates directly; no prescreening.
- Housing leads available upon request; candidates encouraged to explore local housing options.
