Description
Registered Nurse (OR)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Unit: Operating Room (OR)
Shift: Days (8, 10, or 12-hour shifts available; total 36-40 hours per week)
Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling allowed within reason; block scheduling not guaranteed
- Weekend rotations and call required
- Call response time: 45 minutes
- Call frequency:
- Weeknights: 3-4 calls per 4-week period
- Weekends: 1 call shift per 4-week period
- Call begins at end of shift for shifts ending at 3:30 PM or 5:30 PM; extended shifts require separate call coverage
Job Description
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma Facility OR unit with 23 suites and an average of 75 cases per day
- Scrubbing and/or circulating experience in Neuro, Orthopedic, and Trauma cases preferred (scrubbing not required but a bonus)
- Experience with trauma, ortho, neuro, cardiac, and exploratory laparotomy (ex lap) cases during night shifts
- Charge nurse present on all shifts (charge nurse does not take patient assignments)
- EMR system used: EPIC
- No floating required
- Hospital-issued scrub color/dress code
Call and Weekend Expectations
- Travelers must take the same amount of perioperative call as permanent staff
- Call centers assigned; call duties may include circulator and tech roles
- RN’s may sign up for tech call spots but can be bumped if tech staff need coverage
- Call coverage for cardiac and eye cases may be required depending on call center assignment
Neuro/Ortho Call:
- 3 weekday shifts per month (evenings or nights)
- Some staff rotate taking 2 weekend shifts per month; others take 1 weekend shift
Center 1 Call:
- 3 weekday shifts per month (evenings or nights)
- Some staff rotate taking 2 weekend shifts per month; others take 1 weekend shift
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS certification required
- Must have prior travel nursing experience
- Must have experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Experience with scrubbing and/or circulating in Neuro, Ortho, and Trauma cases
Additional Information
- ASAP start required; contract must end by June 1st
- Manager interviews candidates directly (no prescreen)
- Housing leads available upon request; candidates encouraged to explore local housing market independently
