Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer
Location: Gardner, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary
Perform cardiac diagnostic imaging procedures to study the anatomy and hemodynamics of the heart using two-dimensional (2D) and Doppler modalities. Assist Cardiologists during transesophageal echocardiograms and perform related diagnostic tests such as 12-lead electrocardiograms and stress testing when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Echo Technologist
- Echo Technologist experience within the last year
- Credentialed by the ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with Adult Echocardiography (AE) specialty
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Key Responsibilities
- Introduce self and verify patient identity using two forms of ID; explain testing procedures
- Review medical history and direct exams accordingly
- Perform cardiac imaging and online calculations to quantify cardiac function and hemodynamics
- Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and medications; report abnormal findings to Cardiologists and take appropriate patient safety measures
- Review test results with Cardiologists and discuss imaging techniques
- Prioritize requests based on patient condition and urgency
- Coordinate and communicate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care
- Assist and collaborate with echo and EKG technicians; delegate tasks when appropriate
- Cover lead echo technician responsibilities as needed
- Ensure timely report delivery to Cardiologists and monitor turnaround times
- Operate and troubleshoot echo PACS system and stress testing equipment
- Perform cleaning and disinfection of equipment, including probes; order supplies as needed
- Recognize and report malfunctioning equipment to Clinical Engineering
Physical and Functional Demands
- Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move equipment
- Frequent reaching and handling with hands; occasional stooping and crouching
- No physical limitations in pushing equipment
Additional Information
- Familiarity with JCAHO guidelines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
This position requires a skilled cardiac sonographer with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a clinical environment.
