Description
Registered Nurse - PCU Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (6:00 AM - 6:30 PM)
- Unit Type: Mixed Acuity Unit including Medical, PCU, Oncology, Stroke, Cardiac, Gastrointestinal, and Pulmonary care
- Patient Ratios:
- MS patients: 1:5-6 ratio
- PCU patients: 1:3-4 ratio
- Patient Conditions: Unstable strokes, BiPap, patients on Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin drips
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Free
- Dress Code: Red scrub tops with black bottoms
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience
- Solid neurological and neurology nursing experience
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Checks:
- Must include 7 years of residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification (may be pending at start if needed)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education: Official transcript or diploma indicating degree and graduation date (may be pending at start)
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months of start; must be tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Color Blind Exam: Ishihara or equivalent online test with 100% minimum score
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology and unit competency exams required
- Facility-Specific Forms: Must complete all required facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
Additional Information
- Locals are NOT accepted for this travel assignment
- The unit is dynamic and includes progressive care and medical-surgical patients
- Candidates will care for oncology and stroke patients, including unstable stroke cases
- On-site fit testing is limited and requires prior approval; PAPR use requires facility approval before start
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong neurological and progressive care skills seeking a travel contract in a mixed acuity environment.
