Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Women's Health and Obstetrics
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour Night Shift (1845-0715)
- Hours per Week: 12 hours (likely per shift; typical scheduling details below)
- Schedule:
- Weekend rotation every 4th weekend
- Holiday work every other holiday
- No on-call required
- Schedule created by Lead RN, released 2 weeks in advance, on a 6-week cycle
- Request time off (RTO) can be approved with 7 days' notice
Unit and Patient Information
- Unit Type: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)
- Unit Beds and Facilities:
- 12 LDRP beds
- 2 triage rooms
- 2 operating rooms (ORs)
- 10-bed Level II NICU
- Patient Volume: Approximately 60-80 births per month
- Patient Population:
- Pregnant patients 32 weeks gestation and above
- Majority are lower risk pregnancies
- Common diagnoses include hypertension, diabetes, elevated BMI, substance abuse medication management, epidurals
- Post-delivery care continues in the same room
- Experience with post-women’s surgeries preferred
Patient Ratios
- 1:1 for laboring patients
- 1:2 for active labor
- 1:3 for couplets (mother and newborn)
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of LDRP nursing experience
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification
Required Skills
- Cervical exams
- Amnio infusions
- Epidural management
- Fetal monitoring
- IV starts and management
- Pitocin administration
- Baby catching/receiving and APGAR scoring
- Basic breastfeeding education
- Comfortable managing all aspects of postpartum care from transition to discharge for mother and baby
Support and Resources
- 2 Techs available on unit
- Charge nurse available and will take patients
- Phlebotomy support
- Labor & Delivery anesthesia always on call
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
- OB/GYNs on call (not necessarily on unit 24/7)
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- Lactation consultant available during the day to meet every patient before discharge
- Management available during daytime hours
Orientation
- Neonatal orientation provided
- 1-2 days unit orientation depending on nurse’s comfort level
Technology and Equipment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC preferred
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Patient Monitors: QS Centricity
