Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a Medical-Surgical unit (D3)
- Float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
- Night shift staffing ratio approximately 1:5 or 1:6
- No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in the region
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccine required by December 5th; medical or religious exemptions must be approved at least 2 weeks prior to start
- Negative 2-step TB test or Quantiferon Gold within 1 year of start; chest X-ray required if prior positive TB test
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; must complete specific medical history forms during occupational health appointment
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific lab and panel requirements apply)
- Fit testing for N95 mask required; quantitative fit test for 3M 1870 mask accepted if done externally
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola): 2 MMR doses or positive titer
- Mumps: 2 MMR doses or positive titer
- Rubella: 2 MMR doses or positive titer
- Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer or history of chickenpox
- Hepatitis B: titer, declination, or completed vaccine series
- Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test required prior to start (can be completed onsite)
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Must pass an advanced EKG/ECG test with a minimum 90% score within 72 hours of contract signing; 100% required on lethal rhythms
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- NIH Stroke certification may be assigned during orientation if not already held
- Additional competency exams as required by profession
Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions must be current
- FCRA Authorization Release must be signed prior to start
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required for all RNs per New York State regulations
- Passport-style photo for badge with specific guidelines required before start
- Completion of virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules prior to start date
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not reside in specified local counties to qualify as travelers
- Flu season protocols require mask wearing in patient-facing areas if exemption is approved
- Lift assessment (minimum 10-25 lbs) may be required depending on job duties
- Occupational Health appointments and some testing may be billed to the agency
- References: 2 professional references required for travel and acute care roles
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with acute care background, EPIC proficiency, and willingness to work night shifts in a medical-surgical setting.
