Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health (Virginia)
Job Details
- Location: Saluda, Virginia
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
- Hours per Week: 40 hours
- Average Patients per Day: 5-8
- Weekly Travel: Approximately 200+ miles, willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic
- Schedule Notes:
- One weekend per month rotation required
- On-call once a month, including the weekend on-call
- Some positions may have a 4x10 schedule (Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8
Job Description
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses.
- Manage various case types including Start of Care, Wound Care, and Follow-up Visits.
- Documentation and charting using HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (required proficiency for RNs).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Home Health, including experience within the last year
- Hospice experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB)
- Experience with OASIS documentation and charting systems
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to travel within the assigned territory (Northern Neck area)
- Must complete various compliance and background checks including:
- Standard 7-year background check with state-specific requirements
- Fingerprinting as required by state regulations
- Drug screening (10-panel)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Immunization or titer proof for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- COVID-19 vaccination series or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination documentation
- Must complete required facility-specific documents and compliance training prior to start
- Must provide notarized state police background release form for Virginia
- Two professional references required
- Verification of at least two most recent employers or last 7 years of work history
Work Environment
- Dress code: Scrubs
- Home visits with periodic office meetings
- Documentation and travel time are tracked with a point system
- No guaranteed hours; if patient census is low, floating to nearby clinics may be arranged
Notes
- First-time travel nurses without recent specialty experience are not accepted
- Weekend and on-call requirements vary; discuss during interview
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient not reimbursed)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with recent home health or hospice experience seeking a travel contract in Virginia with a structured day shift schedule and a mix of patient care and supervisory responsibilities.
