Description

Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Surgery

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Pre-Op, Heart Tower (4 beds)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1
  • Staffing includes RNs, CNC support, secretary, and manager shared with CVOR
  • Equipment: GE Carescape Monitoring, Fuji ultrasound
  • Documentation System: Cerner
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
  • On-Call: Required to stay late 1-2 times per week
  • Floating: Within scope of practice and experience

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of preoperative nursing experience, with at least one year within the last year
  • Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in BCMA and excellent documentation practices
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills for interdepartmental collaboration

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform large-bore IV starts, chin-to-toe hair removal, medication administration, and skin assessments
  • Assist with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
  • Transport patients to the OR and assist with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin preparation

  • Dress Code: Uniform provided
  • The unit supports a high-acuity patient population with advanced cardiovascular surgical care
  • Recognized for nursing excellence and patient safety standards
  • Exposure to advanced technology and equipment in a specialized cardiovascular surgical setting
