Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Night Shift) – Travel/Contract
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Holiday coverage is required; flexibility needed for holiday time off requests based on staffing demands.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- No call requirement.
- Float to Medical/Surgical (MS), ICU, and Emergency Department (ED) waiting to take MS patients as needed.
- Patient ratios typically 1:6, may flex higher occasionally; support staff available in rare cases.
- Strong post-surgical nursing competencies required.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1.5 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in colostomy care
- Skilled in feeding tube care and management
- Experience with pre- and post-hemodialysis management
- Competent in accessing ports
- Blood product administration experience
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) management
- Management of surgical drains
- Management of chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Comfortable managing patient ratios of 1:6 or higher
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of assignment start.
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/T-Spot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Proof of immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
- 10-panel drug screen including marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Fit testing for N95 respirators required on-site prior to or on first day of assignment.
Background & Documentation Requirements
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, statewide searches, education verification, and motor vehicle record (MVR) search.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Michigan fingerprinting required within 45 days of start.
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements (not applicable here).
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Government-issued photo ID.
- E-Verify compliance.
- Proof of name change if applicable.
- Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy.
- Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
