Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – OB/L&D
Location: Bemidji, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care for postpartum, stable antepartum, newborns, gynecology patients, and Med-Surg overflow.
- May serve as second RN in Special Care Nursery (SCN).
- Expected to float as needed, primarily assisting but may care for Med-Surg patients occasionally.
- Bonus if experienced in circulating in Labor & Delivery.
Patient Census & Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
- Average daily census:
- 5 mom/baby couplets
- 2 pediatrics
- 1 gynecology
- 2 labor
- 4 SCN patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN standards:
- 1:3 mom/baby couplets
- 1:5 gynecology/Med-Surg patients
- 1:3-4 pediatrics
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of OB/L&D nursing experience, including postpartum care.
- Active Minnesota RN license (temporary or pending licenses considered with potential start date adjustments).
- Current certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required; if none, must specify other EMR systems used.
- Ability to work in Labor and Postpartum units.
- Willingness to float to Med-Surg and Telemetry units as needed.
Skills & Equipment
- Familiarity with unit equipment including:
- EPIC One Chart
- Omnicell
- Philips Vitals Machines
- Bladder Scanner
- Medula Breast Pumps
- Responder 5 Call Light System
- Medfusion Pumps
Schedule & Work Environment
- Variable shifts including weekends.
- Support staff includes ward clerks, CNAs (Tues-Thurs), charge nurses, resource nurses, and LPN scrub nurses.
- Orientation includes equipment and unit-specific training on the first day.
- Facility requires all clinicians to badge in and out.
- Uniform scrub color: Navy Blue.

- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility may have adjusted rates (not included here).
- Must indicate if previously employed by this health system; prior employment requires a minimum 6-month gap before rehire.
